ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Jensen Jarrah is sensitive to the needs of our environment, as is our Government.
Jarrah timber is assuredly a sustainable natural resource.
In southern Western Australia, there are over 6.25 million acres of Jarrah forest. Less than 1% is being logged, which is governed by the Australian government for this timber to be used in the most creative & constructive products.
The Forest Products Commission is responsible for commercial timber production from publicly owned native forests and plantations in Western Australia. The commission has implemented an environment management system, which has been certified as complying with the requirements of AS/NZS ISO 14001, effective from July 11th, 2001.
With respect to native forests, the Commission’s Environmental Management System operates to standards established under a Forest Management Plan that is approved by the Minister for the Environment, as well as our Regional Forest Agreement that has been signed with the Commonwealth Government of Australia.
Under Western Australia’s State native forest policy, no timber is now sourced from old growth forest. Native hardwoods, including jarrah, karri and marri, are now supplied from regrowth forests on a sustainable basis [which means harvesting must never exceed regrowth].
The Forest Products Commission works along side Western Australia’s products and manufacturing industry to deliver quality products from certified and sustainably managed forests.

The Department of Environment and Conservation [Western Australia] was established July 1st 2006, bringing together the Department of Environment [DoE] and the Department of Conservation and Land Management [CALM]. By combining the strengths of the former DoE and CALM, the new department brings many benefits including providing a clearer focus on environmental priorities such as sustainable use of our natural resources.
The Sustainable Forest Management Division is responsible for the following:
- sustainable management of State forests and timber reserves
- implementation of the Forest Management Plan 2004-2013 which includes the protection of old growth forests
- facilitates the harvesting of State forest timber reserves by the forest Products Commission
